Found Narratives & Altered Books:
Creating Your Own Book Works Using Found Materials

This workshop focuses on ways of using found materials to create
new visual narratives, particularly ways in which altering books
or other found materials can be a subversive act that challenges
the materials being appropriated. To stimulate ideas, participants
will be shown examples of altered book structures. Students will learn
techniques of stenciling, over-printing, deconstructing, reassembling,
collage, and cutting, with a particular emphasis on surface design and
altered forms.
SUPPLIES: Students should bring a book that they want to alter, or
other found materials such as: photographs, drawings, letters, etc.
INSTRUCTOR BIO: Elysa Voshell taught creative writing at the Ogontz
Avenue Art Company in Philadelphia (an arts education program for
'at-risk' high-school age students who had left the public school
system). As an artist-in-residence in book arts at Oregon College
of Art & Craft, she currently participates in BFA and
post-baccalaureate critiques.
$15 for IPRC members/$30 for non-members. Pre-Registration is REQUIRED.

Pinhole Photography

Learn how to make and use a pinhole camera, the simplest and yet most
subtle of photographic devices. Then develop your prints right here
at the IPRC! INSTRUCTOR: Gina Rymarcsuk
$25 for IPRC members/$50 for non-members. Pre-Registration is REQUIRED.

Gocco Printing
Wed 5/11, 6:00pm-9:00pm
This workshop covers the basics of printingon a B6 model Gocco
Printer. The Gocco is a self-contained screenprinting apparatus
that is imported from Japan. The workshop will cover all aspects
of operation, including original artwork preperation, screen
exposure, and printing. Please bring a small (no larger than 3
by 5 in) photocopied or computer printed image or text (that we
will make a print out of!)
