Seattle Letterpress Class

I guess I'm on an event-posting-athon. All these announcements came into my email this week- when it rains, it pours, right Seattle folks?

Someone was in the store asking about a Letterpress class, and I just got notice of these two coming up:

Sept 15-Nov 17 BEGINNING LETTERPRESS Diane Jacobs Thurs 6:30-9: Learn to hand-set metal type and print good impressions off two Vandercook proofing presses. The course will begin with two collaborative projects, and an individual final project will round out the latter part of the course. Students will concentrate on typographic layout and the visual qualities of text on the page while beginning to incorporate images with words. Experimentation will be encouraged and at least one printmaking technique for the proof press will be covered. Examples of contemporary letterpress printers' work will be shared, and a Saturday field trip to the main library's Special Collections will be arranged. $340 Studio Fee $46. Sept. 20-Oct. 11 INTRODUCTION TO THE LETTERPRESS Lisa Hasegawa Tuesdays, 6-10pm,Learn and become comfortable with the beautiful art of letterpress printing in this beginner’s course. Students will learn to hand-set metal type, how to lock up a type form for a platen press, and how to ink up, set up, and operate the press. We will also explore various methods of printing imagery such as using letterpress cuts, linoleum cuts and wire printing. On the last day of class we will exchange prints and construct a portfolio to take home. Number of Sessions: 4 Course Fee: $220.
